Chipping:
The City is not organizing any neighborhood chipping events related to the storm. For storm debris, residents may wish to acquire a chipper from a rental store or other business and organizer an event.
We are taking the City's tree debris to a central site, along with the debris brought to our two drop-off sites the next three weekends. Public Works will rent a commercial grinder to chip the debris, which we will reuse this summer as part of storm water restoration projects.
Tree Debris Pick-Up:
We are NOT able to pick up trees and limbs dragged or place at the curb side by property owners from their yards. Our crews are busy full time taking care of the downed trees and limbs on streets and in the parks. Residents can take tree debris from their yards to one of the City or County drop off sites, which are free for residents.
If needed, we will work with the Neighborhood Coalition in late February/early March on some neighborhood collection sites.

Put Spoiled Food in Organics Cart.
- Olympia garbage customers are reminded that it is okay to put spoiled food in curbside organics.
- With long power outages, it's possible some residents will have food that needs to be discarded. While it is okay to put food in the garbage, another option is to place it in your curbside organics cart for composting. All foods are accepted including raw or cooked and bones. If you are concerned about odors, consider wrapping it in newspaper or keeping spoiled food cold until close to your collection day.
- Avoid Contaminating Organics with Food Wrappers. Residents are reminded that any food waste placed in curbside organics cart must be free of wrappers and containers. Including but not limited to: shiny meat wrappers, Styrofoam meat trays, plastic wrap or film, etc.
- For a complete list of what should go in your organics cart please visit www.olympiawa.gov/foodscraps. While you're there, download the updated Organics accepted materials flyer to put on your fridge or in your kitchen to refer back to. To sign up for curbside organics please call 360.753.8340.
